The senior men’s gladiateurs rugby team is filled with young talent looking at growing together and climbing up the ranks of the Quebec Rugby Federation (FRQ). In the winter practices are at La Fonderie in Hull on Sunday nights at 6pm. Winter sessions are $8 per session with the first one being free. Summer practices are included in your summer team fees. The team practices Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6-8p at Heritage College field in the summertime with games on Saturdays. The season runs from May until August.
Last year the senior men finished in the middle of the pack in the development division of the FRQ. The team is a mix of young and old; however a majority of the team is of college age, 18-23 years old. For at least 5 or 6 players it was their first year playing senior rugby last year. With such a great group of young talent, the men are looking at taking over the development league and trying to advance in Provincial 2.
The team includes many college rugby players as well as experiences players from the area; however all are welcome and no experience is necessary to play. Every year there are 3-4 players which have never played before. With the help of the coaches and players, the men’s team prepares players at practice so that they are ready to play when they enter their first game.
The team is coached by the extremely knowledgeable and dedicated Steph Crawley. Steph is very enthusiastic and prepared to bring this team to the next level. She also coaches the Ottawa University men’s rugby team where they went undefeated this season. Steph does a great job of using all the resources in her ability to help the team grow. She is constantly researching the newest coaching strategies and techniques and implementing them into the gladiateurs team.
The team enjoys social events with the rest of the club all year long. Several events last year included a mystery bus tour for senior players only as well as a rugby golf day. The men’s team is looking to build upon their current team and hopefully grow with the infusion of new players.
This year our Senior Women's team will play in the FRQ (Fédération de Rugby Quebec) - Division 1
league. The team is comprised of both competitive and developmental players of all ages (18+), with
one main goal, to help players improve their skills and fuel their love for rugby. We are committed
to the development and fair playing time for all our members. This will enable the team to gain
valuable on-field experience, learn new positions and improve their gameplay. Although we are a
group with a wide range of skills and experience, we are one team, and we train as such.
Our winter training starts in December, training once a week at La Fonderie Hull on Sunday nights at 6pm. Our primary focus is technique and maintaining fitness. In April/May, when the fields open – training starts up and takes place Tuesday and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm at Heritage College in Hull, QC.
Games officially start in May and the season finishes near the end of August. Games are generally on Saturdays – So if you plan on playing make sure to book off work! We focus on a lot of team bonding, with regular activities and outings over the summer, in addition to our weekend games. Even though we play hard on the field, we like our social events as well. Our club has several well-attended social functions throughout the year. With the Gladiateurs, you'll not only find a team that welcomes all but a group of women that you will soon be calling your close friends.
The program is actively recruiting and is always looking for new players. So, come on out, Glad’s will make your summer exciting and memorable!
The gladiateurs junior program contains a U18 junior girls and U18 junior girls’ team. Many of our players come from high schools in the region including D’Arcy McGee, Philemon Wright and de l'Île High Schools. The junior players are able to play summer rugby and improve their skills for the following school season. Additionally players graduate from the junior level and enter into the senior teams following their junior seasons. The integrated club makes it easier for junior players to make the jump from junior to senior.
The Gladiateurs Junior Program is the only rugby club in the Outaouais Region! We provide a program
that provides on-going instruction by qualified coaches and experienced senior players. Our ultimate
goal is to make sure we teach the kids basic skills of rugby in a fun and safe environment. We focus
on skill development, individual understanding of the game and team play.
